History

The QAIS was founded in 1964. Its founding members were representatives of Herzliah High School, Stanstead College, Marymount College in Quebec City, Loyola High School, The Study and Lower Canada College. At the time, the Quebec educational milieu was undergoing a profound change as schools owned by religious orders that were the predominant dispensers of education at the time, handed over their power to a governmental body, the Ministry of Education. The QAIS was established to provide for the collective and individual needs of English Independent Schools in Quebec.
