LEARNING SUPPORT SPECIALIST – Maternity Leave Replacement

Trafalgar School for Girls is seeking a dynamic, relationship-oriented, and organized individual who will support the academic development of students.Reporting to the Director of Students, they will develop and implement school-wide and individual programs to ensure the success of every student. The position is a part-time, replacement position.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with school staff and faculty to screen and identify students experiencing difficulties and require academic support.

Work with individual students to help them acquire the skills and strategies to capitalize on their strengths and accommodate their challenges.

Read and review psycho-educational assessments in order to prepare an appropriate Individual Educational Plan (IEP) based on the recommendations of the assessment

Work with teachers, students, and parents to implement IEPs and follow up to ensure their efficacy

Design, develop and adapt materials based on student needs and capabilities

Help train, sensitize, and assist teachers with an effective approach to classroom instruction that supports student needs

Develop a comprehensive School Support Plan, noting Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 interventions and support, and regularly monitor the progress of the SSP and the progress of the individual students, adjusting their Tier level and/or interventions and support as needed

Ability to work under the direction of different people and as part of a team

Prepare and submit reports as required or requested

The ideal candidate will have;

  • A degree in educational psychology, orthopedagogy, or related field. Specialist qualifications an asset
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant and practical experience
  • Knowledge of current research on girls and learning
  • Bilingualism in French and English, with excellent grammar and spelling skills
  • Great organizational skills, sense of priorities, and ability to manage multiple projects
  • Proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite
