The Quebec Association of Independent Schools (QAIS) is an organization consisting of English elementary and secondary independent schools licensed in the public interest. As a community of independent schools, the QAIS actively promotes innovation, collaboration and educational excellence.


QAIS is currently seeking candidates for the 1 year replacement of:

Executive Director (Maternity Leave Replacement)


The Executive Director supports and enhances the work of all aspects of educational leadership to benefit the 23 QAIS member schools. Reporting to the QAIS Board, the primary responsibilities of the Executive Director is to engage QAIS administrators, faculty, and staff in collaborative professional activities, promote Independent school education in Quebec, and foster collaboration amongst the schools.


The Executive Director must possess:

  • A minimum experience of 10 years in education.
  • An ability to communicate in both English and French.
  • A demonstrated leadership experience with knowledge of the Independent school network.
  • A proven ability to plan and work collaboratively to achieve established outcomes.
  • Financial acumen to prepare and present budgets and reports.
  • An ability to create coherence from complex and dynamic factors.
  • An ability to attract the energies and commitment of stakeholders in taking action.
  • A demonstrated strength in both organizational and communication skills.
  • Branding and marketing skills including proficiency in digital and social media.

The responsibilities of the Executive Director are to:

  • Provide informed and inspired leadership.
  • Advocate for and support the member schools.
  • Represent the Association at a variety of local, provincial and national educational tables.
  • Establish a distinctive voice and presence within the provincial education sector.
  • Foster the relationship between the Association and the Ministry of Education.
  • Build on networks already in place and lead efforts to promote QAIS interests.
  • Build a programme of collaborative professional development activities for member schools that supports staff as they seek to further improve their practice.
  • Work with staff and review financial information with the Treasurer and the board.
  • Maintain the website with current information on QAIS operations, events and news.
  • Guide meetings of the Association.
  • Ensure the sustainability and success of the Association and its work with and on behalf of the member schools.

Salary and benefits will be commensurate with applicant's educational qualifications and experience.

Start Date: September 2020.
