Professional Development
QAIS offers many opportunities for faculty and staff in terms of professional development.
First and foremost, QAIS facilitates meetings of professionals from each school which is a wonderful source of professional development and camaraderie!
The following Committees are in place and meet regularly:
QAIS Curriculum Reps
QAIS Curriculum Reps meet to discuss pedagogical and curricular issues. The role of Curriculum Reps is typically filled by the Head of Academics or a related position in a school. There is one representative per school, and there are two Curriculum Reps who chair the meetings.
Subject Representatives
Subject Reps ensure that the latest in subject-specific news gets delivered to teachers in schools. There is typically 1 subject rep per area, per school, in each subject area and for both Elementary and Secondary School. The Subject Reps plan and prepare meetings that may feature guest speakers on key topics, updates on Ministry subject updates, and facilitate discussion between teachers. Schools are invited and encouraged to send a teacher representative to these meetings, which take place twice a year. The reps selected by their schools are encouraged to attend these meetings and report back to their respective departments.
There are many other committees that are facilitated by QAIS, and support professionals in the schools. There is one representative per school on these committees, and they meet several times throughout the school year.

QAIS is run by a Board of Governors, which is led by an Executive Committee.
There are also Board Committees, to which faculty and staff are sometimes asked to join. These include:
- Government Relations
- Marketing
- Professional Development.

Professional Development Opportunities and Resources
QAIS offers a variety of internal PD options, as well as opportunities to participate in local and provincial initiatives. QAIS sponsors attendance at some of these events, and will share information about other opportunities when they become available.
Annual QAIS PD Day
Each August, Faculty and staff at QAIS schools come together to learn from outstanding professionals, and kick-off the new academic year on a Positive note!
Guest Speakers
Occasionally QAIS or individual schools within QAIS arrange for a guest speaker and invite QAIS faculty and staff to attend the event.
QAIS is part of LCEEQ Leading Committee for English Education in Quebec, which provides a number of professional development opportunities.
QAIS also makes faculty and staff aware of other opportunities as they arise.
